Finding an antique glass coffee table is not that easy, for if you really want a real antique and not just an antique looking one then it would be hard. You need to do some research and know how to distinguish the real antique from the one who looks like and antique. Also when you decide to an antique table of any furniture for that matter you should choose something that represents you or if you have a family that represents the family.
Types and Dimensions: The more popular type of large wooden coffee tables are generally made of mahogany, pinewood or oak with the tops coming in glass or marble available in the traditional square, round or rectangular shapes. The larger ones have dimensions of 840mm wide, 280mm high and 40mm deep and are large enough to hold a full tray of coffee as well as magazines and newspapers. Some of the much larger wooden coffee tables can be used even as a cabinet or side table and has the capacity to hold a number of items.
As people moved away from cocktails toward coffee, J. Stuart Foote was there to meet the new demand, and named himself the inventor of the coffee table. Until Mr. Foote’s company - the Imperial Furniture Company - began mass producing this newly needed furniture, ordinary citizens were relegated to sawing the legs of higher tables to bring them down to the appropriate height. Despite its relatively recent beginning, the coffee table quickly gained popularity in the American home.
